FAQS.

CONTRAINDICATIONS.

  • Pregnant or breast feeding.
  • If you are under 18 years old.
  • If you are using Roaccutain, Retin-A or similar skin medication. If you have been Doxy Cycline or other photo sensitising antibiotics.

You need to STOP taking this medication and wait a MINIMUM of 6 months before getting your lips tattooed.

  • If you are prone to keloid scarring
  • If you are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment.

You will need to wait 12 months after completing chemotherapy/radiation as the immune system is compromised and you are at high risk of infection. A doctors note will also need to be provided prior to going ahead. Please email Jen contactjenlouise@gmail.com prior to booking.

  • You can not have open wounds on or in close proximity to the lip area. Your lip skin needs to be in good health.
  • Jen does not tattoo those who are smokers due to smoking increasing the risk of healing complications and how the chemicals in cigarettes interact with pigments overtime.

LONGEVITY.

This is dependant on your skin, correctly followed Before and Aftercare and overall health.

Factors that will cause your tattoo to fade faster:

  • UVA/UVB EXPOSURE.
  • Any invasive facials and products -retinol, active skincare, chemical peels, exfoliants, micro-needling and lasers.

The Lip area should always be avoided.

  • Skin that is in poor health.
  • Oily skin.
  • Iron deficiency.

PAIN.

It is slightly uncomfortable but completely bearable.

LIP SHAPE.

Measuring techniques are used to create symmetry. Jen is meticulous with the pre-draw.

The shape is mapped out and the pre-draw is completed. You will then see the shape. Make sure you are 100% happy with the pre-draw before tattooing. It is dependant on each individual as to how far the shape can be pushed.

Lip tattooing can only go as far as the lip membrane and the vermillion border.

COLOUR.

Jen has extensive knowledge in pigmentology. She has a large range of high quality pigments that can either be mixed or used on their own. Please know that Jens aesthetic and goal is to achieve a NATURAL result. This more often than not means chosing colours within your natural lip tone.

COLD SORE VIRUS.

If you have ever had a cold sore you are very likely to have a coldsore outbreak. You will need to get over the counter medication to prevent it from happening prior to your tattoo appointment.

Please check with your Dr or pharmacist what options are best for you.

Please read 'Before and Aftercare' for more information.

LIP FILLER.

In no way does having lip filler interfere with the process of lip tattooing.

Please note that lip filler and lip tattooing appointments must be minimum 6 weeks apart from each other.

LIP DARKNESS/DARKER AREAS.

Neutralization is not as straight forward as standard Lip Tattooing. Colour correction is needed to cancel out darker tones. Results can not be guaranteed and lightening/evening out dark lips may take multiple sessions. If you are unsure if you have dark or cool toned lips, please send Jen photos of your lips in natural light prior to booking an appointment.

CONSULTATIONS.

You are able to book in for a consultation/patch test.
